Abstract

In this festschrift contribution, the author recapitulates the major conclusions of his doctoral dissertation, taking a position more skeptical than previously as to the alleged authorship of Abū l-Ḥasan. He also presents once more his classification of the textual versions, in a way similar to his preceding article https://biblia-arabica.com/bibl/ACJNXIUS. The main part is dedicated to a discussion of the two non-critical editions by Ṣadaqa https://biblia-arabica.com/bibl/A4899GFE and El Sakka https://biblia-arabica.com/bibl/T57RRY4C. The author comments on the shortcomings of these editions, especially of the latter. As a result of numerous arbitrary editorial changes in the text, the editor virtually created, as Shehadeh pointedly concludes, a new textual version of the Samaritan Arabic Pentateuch.
